Protocol ::
The world is trying to contact you. Tell them how and when. Signal & share your Personal Protocol, and if you have a startup, experience tons of inbound communication, or manage a community, your Company Protocol.

The Pain

What
Protocol is a dynamic and syndicated contact sheet, seen most often as an email signature or status update but also functions as an independent site. More specifically, we see it as a preference page to share how and where you want to be contacted. Soon you will be able to embed your protocol in your site of choice. (hey about.me, flavours.me, linkedin.com and wordpress.com)

The Insight
We believe that the incredible rate of change in communication mediums and our evolving habits led to a breakdown in culture. Never again will we all have the exact same communication preferences but just as other industries have become more personalized so too can our understanding of communication.
Once you have publicly communicated your Protocol expectations will be better synced up with reality. This greater sense of communication integrity can set you free to live the digital life you choose.

Why
We believe that the quality of communication, in all its various forms, is heavily dependent on the appropriate medium, timing, and level of trust between parties. Protocol is a tool that helps you, and society at large, understand and share preferences - personal or professional Protocol - to communicate more effectively.

We built this for ourselves.

Who
Protocol is meant as a mitigator for those who do not yet know you, or your work style, well. Those not in your inner circle but with whom you may interact digitally. We also use Protocol for those who do not know how to get in touch with us.

Types of Protocol
We suggest you read this insightful article by The Five Levels of Communication in a Connected World.
In the digital world in which we live, it has become too easy to send emails, ping people via instant message, text, tweet, etc. Upon reflection, I think I've been too haphazard about how I communicate with my colleagues, clients, friends, and family. Oftentimes, an email about a problem should have been a phone call. And sometimes a phone call should have been an in-person meeting. -- Scott Belsky, The 99% Tips
Personal Protocol: A great way for you to let people around you know how you prefer to communicate. We suggest

Company Protocol:: A great for individuals who work in an organzation and share the same information networks to be consistent in referrals.
A great example would be an entertainment star who wants to point fans to facebook and twitter and speaking inquires to her personal assistant’s email.
